VIRTUAL: Demystifying The Big 3 Free Digital Sites For Genealogists In Massachusetts

Monday, August 77:00—8:00 PMZoom

Open to everyone who's interested in genealogy. Each meeting -- which will take place via Zoom -- consists of a presentation from a guest speaker (typically a professional genealogist), followed by a period where members can briefly share their latest genealogy research, and then the library will share a genealogy resource its patrons can access for free.

The August 2023 meeting will feature Linda B. MacIver. Linda will deliver her new presentation, "Demystifying the Three Big Free Digital Sites for Genealogists in Massachusetts: The Internet Archive and Beyond!" As you grumble about the ever-increasing costs of the commercial databases, do you sometimes admit to yourself that you don’t value free sites as much as you should? With a whole truckload of formerly copyright-protected, now freely-available, materials out there, has it been at least a year since you stopped to search the Internet Archive, the Digital Commonwealth, or the Digital Public Library of America? Let’s revisit these three and a few additional favorites of mine, old and new, to add to your list of: “When did I last go mining for a golden discovery in ...?!”
